Host Club Customer Types: Big Spenders, Light Customers, and Aces Explained

Not all host club customers are the same. In fact, there are three distinct categories that hosts use to describe their clientele — and knowing which one you are (or want to be) is key to having a comfortable, enjoyable experience.

The Three Customer Types

1. Futokyaku (太客 / Big Spender)

Futokyaku (太客) literally means "thick customer" — a big spender. These customers are the financial backbone of host clubs, spending ¥500,000 or more per month.

  • Monthly spend: ¥500,000 – ¥5,000,000+
  • Frequency: 3–5 times per week
  • Typical orders: Premium champagne (Dom Pérignon, Armand de Brignac), multiple bottles per night, champagne towers
  • Treatment: VIP seating, priority host attention, personal gifts from the host, sometimes invited to exclusive parties or trips

Futokyaku receive the most attention because they generate the most revenue. However, this level of spending comes with expectations — and potential financial risk if you cannot sustain it. Only 1–5% of customers are futokyaku.

2. Hosokyaku (細客 / Light Customer)

Hosokyaku (細客) means "thin customer" — the majority of host club clientele. These customers enjoy host clubs within a modest budget.

  • Monthly spend: ¥10,000 – ¥30,000
  • Frequency: Once a month or less
  • Typical orders: Set fee + nomination + basic drinks, no champagne
  • Treatment: Professional and warm, but shared host attention is normal

70–80% of customers are hosokyaku. Clubs depend on volume — many light customers are more stable than a few big spenders who might quit suddenly. There is no shame in being a light customer.

3. Ace (エース / Consistent Regular)

The "ace" (エース) is a category that sits between futokyaku and hosokyaku. An ace customer is someone who spends moderately but consistently and reliably.

  • Monthly spend: ¥50,000 – ¥150,000
  • Frequency: 1–2 times per week
  • Typical orders: Regular set + nomination + host drinks, occasional bottle of Moët
  • Treatment: Very good — the host values you as a stable income source and will invest in the relationship

Aces are often considered the ideal customer type by hosts. They provide predictable monthly income without the volatility of big spenders (who might disappear overnight) or the low spend of light customers. Many customers naturally graduate from hosokyaku to ace over time as they build relationships with specific hosts.

Finding Your Comfortable Level

The best customer type is the one that fits your budget and lifestyle comfortably. Here is how to find yours:

  • Start as hosokyaku. Your first 2–3 visits should be within a modest budget. Experience the club culture before deciding to spend more.
  • Know your monthly entertainment budget. Never spend more than 5–10% of your monthly take-home income on host clubs.
  • Communicate your type to your host. Saying "I can visit once a month for about ¥20,000" sets clear expectations. A professional host will respect this.
  • Upgrade only when it feels comfortable. If you find yourself stressing about money at a host club, you are spending too much.

Key insight: Hosts value consistency above all. A hosokyaku who visits every month like clockwork is often more valued than a futokyaku who comes once and never returns. Find your rhythm, communicate honestly, and enjoy the experience on your terms.
